LFP Battery

An LFP battery uses lithium iron phosphate as the active cathode material in its lithium-ion cells. LFP is a cell chemistry, not a particular cell shape or pack construction.

Why it matters

Compared with common nickel-rich cathode chemistries, LFP generally offers strong cycle life, good thermal stability, and reduced reliance on nickel and cobalt. Its lower cell-level energy density can require more mass or volume for the same stored energy, while low-temperature charging performance requires careful thermal and charging control.

These are chemistry-level tendencies rather than guarantees about a complete vehicle. Pack design, cell quality, thermal management, buffers, and software all affect usable capacity, charging behavior, lifespan, and safety. Manufacturer-specific charging guidance should therefore take precedence over general advice.
