EPA Range
EPA range is the electric driving-range estimate shown on U.S. vehicle labels under procedures defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
What the number represents
Manufacturers test vehicles on a laboratory dynamometer using prescribed driving cycles and submit the results. EPA audits part of the data. For EV range, city and highway results are adjusted for conditions not fully represented by the basic cycles and then combined for the label value under the applicable method.
EPA range is a standardized comparison estimate, not a promise for every trip. Temperature, speed, wind, elevation, payload, tires, climate-control use, and driving style can raise or lower actual range.
Comparisons should use the same regulatory basis, vehicle configuration, and model year; WLTP and EPA values are produced by different procedures and should not be treated as interchangeable. See EPA Range Testing for the test sequence, adjustment methods, and label interpretation.
