Combined Charging System (CCS)
The Combined Charging System (CCS) is a charging interface that adds two large DC contacts below an AC connector, allowing one vehicle inlet to support both AC and DC charging.
CCS1 and CCS2
CCS exists in two main physical forms. CCS1 combines the DC contacts with a Type 1 AC interface, while CCS2 combines them with a Type 2 AC interface. The connector fitted to a vehicle depends on its market and charging standards.
The connector shape is only one part of compatibility. Vehicle and charger must also agree on communication, voltage, current, and supported charging functions. An adapter may solve a physical mismatch in some approved combinations, but it does not automatically add protocol or voltage compatibility.
