Frunk
A frunk is a storage compartment at the front of a vehicle, where a combustion engine would commonly be located. The name combines “front†and “trunk.â€
What it offers
Electric drivetrains can leave usable space under the hood, but a frunk is not guaranteed: crash structures, motors, power electronics, HVAC equipment, suspension, and cooling systems may occupy the area. Capacity, shape, drainage, lighting, power outlets, and opening method vary by vehicle.
Published volume is only part of usefulness. The opening, usable dimensions, load limit, liner, and whether cables fit conveniently can matter more than a single litre figure. Volume figures should also be compared under the same measurement method.
The compartment has vehicle-specific loading and closing instructions. Owners should observe its stated load limit, keep items clear of the latch, and follow the manual rather than forcing a powered or manually latched hood.
