Euro NCAP
Euro NCAP is an independent European consumer-information programme that evaluates vehicle safety and publishes ratings, including a star result.
How to read a rating
The assessment combines results from defined crash tests and evaluations of occupant protection, vulnerable road-user protection, crash avoidance, and other safety functions under the protocol for that year. The categories and scoring rules can change as the programme is updated.
A star rating belongs to the tested or assessed vehicle specification, equipment, market coverage, and protocol period. It should not automatically be transferred to a different variant or compared without context to a rating earned under much older rules.
Euro NCAP is not the same as regulatory type approval, and a rating from another regional programme uses different procedures. The stars also cannot predict the outcome of every real collision. See Crash Testing and Safety Ratings for protocols, vehicle identity, and comparisons between safety programmes.
