Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)
Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are vehicle functions that help the driver with parts of steering, speed control, braking, monitoring, or warnings.
What the term covers
ADAS is an umbrella term rather than one fixed feature set. Examples include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-centering assistance, blind-spot intervention, driver monitoring, and parking assistance. Cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors, maps, and other inputs may be used alone or together.
The name of a system does not establish its capabilities or automation level. Operating conditions, driver-supervision requirements, and limits vary by vehicle, market, software version, and fitted equipment. A driver-assistance system should not be described as autonomous unless its defined operating responsibility supports that classification.
